The Acupressure Effect on Hegu Points and Sanyinjio Points on Reducing the Level of Menstruation Pain

Abstract

Non-pharmacological measures can be used to overcome menstrual pain, one of which is to use acupressure. Acupressure is one of Chinese medical technique, which it has been known since thousands years ago. It applies pressure or massage and stimulation to specific points in the body. Basically acupressure therapy is a development of acupuncture technique, but the media used is not a needle, but a finger or a blunt object. This study aimed to determine the effect of acupressure on the Hegu and Sanyinjiao points to reduce menstrual pain. Research design using quasy-experimental, the study population at SMP AL-MIFTAH 2 Karang Penang totaled 97 respondents, where were 60 respondents that were declared to fulfill the inclusion and exclusion criteria, Data collection in this study was the observation sheet for the level of dysminorrhea pain. The pain measurement using the NRS pain scale. Statistical tests used Paired Sample T-Test and Independent Sample T-Test with α ≤ 0.05. This study showed that the intensity of menstrual pain before acupressure was equivalent. Based on the group, acupressure with Hegu point, the intensity of menstrual pain has decreased significantly with an average pain intensity of 5.53-3.00, while in the acupressure group with sanyinjiao point the intensity of menstrual pain also decreased significantly, it is 5.47 to 2.13. From the existing exposure, it was concluded that there was no significant difference from the two acupressure groups to the menstrual pain intensity. (Mean: 3.00 SD: 1.467 and Mean: 2.13 SD: 1.332). There is an effect of acupressure both with hegu and sanyinjiao points on dysmenorrhea.
