The Family Experience as A Supervisor of Ingesting Drugs to the Adherence to Treatment of Tuberculosis Patients
Abstract
Tuberculosis is one of the main problems in public health that can affect the community work productivity and is also as the major cause of death. The data taken from DIY Health Office profile is one of the six provinces that has not achieved the target of successfully treating tuberculosis. The Directly Observed Treatment Short-Course program becomes a strategy in Indonesia in the form of a short-term treatment with direct supervision of taking medication with the expectation of ensuring regularity in taking medication for every tuberculosis sufferer during the treatment period. The aim of this research was to figure out the family experience as a supervisor in taking medication to the compliance with the treatment of tuberculosis patients in the Health Center at Pleret Bantul Yogyakarta. This research used qualitative research with a phenomenological study approach while the sampling technique was purposive sampling technique. There were 2 participants in this research consisting of families as supervisors to take the medication for Tuberculosis patients. Data collection was carried out by using in-depth interviews (In Depth Interview) while the data analysis was using data analysis techniques according to Miles & Huberman. Based on the results of the analysis, ten (10) main themes were found consisting of (1) Willingness to seek treatment, (2) Patience within the treatment process, (3) Understanding the patient's health condition, (4) PMO assistance during treatment, (5) Understanding the patient's medication , (6) physical and psychological fatigue, (7) Monitoring and preparation of patients’ medication, (8) Health insurance support, (9) Ability to motivate patients, (10) PMO’s expectation.
