The Effects of Audio-Visual Education on Perioperative Care for Knowledge, Attitudes and Actions of Post-Operational Phacoemulsification Patients

Abstract

Knowledge occurs after the individual senses a particular object influenced by internal, external and media factors. Knowledge of post-phacoemulsification patients is very important so that there is no disability, doubt in conducting self-care which can lead to lack of adherence to treatment and treatment instructions. This can be optimized with the Pendkes program through modern technology (audio visual). This study aims to determine the extent to which audio-visual education increases the knowledge of post-phacoemulsification patients in conducting self-care to restore optimal vision function in private hospitals specifically in the city of Padang. The study was conducted at the Padang Eye Center Hospital in February - April 2020. The study design was quasi experimental pre-post test with control group. A sample of 70 people consisted of 35 respondents in the intervention group and 35 respondents in the control group with a purposive sampling technique. The instrument uses questionnaires with Cronbach's alpha is 0.885> 0.338, observation sheets, audio-visual videos through Whats App. The results of the study with paired sample T Tests showed the effect of audio visual education on knowledge p value (0,000). Audio visual education is proven to be efficient at absorbing information longer than other learning methods.
