The Effect of Mindfulness on Stress and Psychological Well-Being in Small Medium Business Workers

Abstract

The mental health of workers can be described by psychological well-being. Workers who experience stress can interfere with psychological well-being. An intervention to reduce work stress levels and improve psychological well-being in workers is a mindfulness exercise. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of mindfulness training on work stress and psychological well-being of small medium business workers. The design of this study was a pre-experimental one group pre-post test design and was implemented in five sub-districts of the Banyumas Regency UKM members who are members of the UMKM Padma Gayatri. The population in this study amounted to 100 UKM workers who were members of UMKM Padma Gayatri. The sample in this study amounted to 45 UKM workers obtained by purposive sampling technique. The research instrument used the Percieved Stress Scale (PSS) questionnaire, the 42-question medium version of the Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWB Scale), standard operating procedures for mindfulness exercises, and a checklist sheet. The research data were analyzed by using the bivariate Wilcoxon test. The results showed that mindfulness exercise had an effect on stress and psychological well-being with a p-value of 0.000 (p <0.05). Based on these results, it can be concluded that mindfulness training can reduce stress levels and improve psychological well-being in UKM workers.
